If you’re reading this blog, it’s safe to assume that you struggle with binge eating and body image issues. But have you ever really dug into how deeply your pain goes, and how it affects all other facets of your life?
I know for me and the hundreds of clients I’ve worked with, these are some of the top “costs” of staying stuck in the binge/restrict cycle:
Relationships: Are you prone to social isolation because you get too stressed out at the idea of eating in front of others? Maybe food causes tension in your relationship with your partner, because you’re always on a diet and restricting the types of food you have in the house, but your partner isn’t and gets irritated with all the rules and restriction.
Money: It’s likely if you have a binge eating issue, you have money issues. Both things are rooted in scarcity. There’s never enough…I’ll never get my share…I can’t have that or spend this…
Time: How much of your time do you spend thinking about food? Between researching diets, “fixes,” and healthy recipes…meal planning…meal prepping. Is food usually the first thing you think about in the morning, and the last thing you think about each night?
Energy: The fight with food and body can be exhausting and all consuming. Do you feel low energy all the time? It’s likely the constant battle with binge eating has taken its toll on you.
Quality of life: Are you living the life of your dreams? Do you show up empowered, happy, and speaking your truth each day? Or do you try (and fail) to control everything and live life by rules and restriction? Do you prevent yourself from doing what you want, going where you want to go, and experiencing the things you crave? All because of your struggle with binge eating and hating your body?
Get quiet and take some time to really reflect on what your struggle with binge eating is costing you in your life.
