How many times have you thought or said, “I’m just an anxious person”? This is something I used to tell myself over and over again. I made anxiety part of my identity, and it took me a loooong time to figure out that that wasn’t the case at all. Here’s the thing:
You can experience something and not be it.
This is where the concept of observation vs. identification comes in. It’s also why I love teaching my clients about the power of awareness when it comes to transformation. You need to be aware of your state to observe it, NOT identify with it, and shift it.
So with anxiety, once you are aware that you are feeling anxious, you would observe it but not identify with it. Instead of saying, “I am anxious,” you can acknowledge, “I am experiencing anxiety right now.” It may just seem like a play on words, but it’s a huge difference when it comes to maintaining your state.
If you struggle with anxiety, breathwork can be a beautiful healing modality for you. It was hands down the number one method that helped me manage my anxiety AND overcome my struggle with food and body.
